Working with stylists can take your work to another level and APA's next Creative Speaker series event will help you improve those skills. Food photographer Nader Khouri will take you through the process from pre-production to doing a live demo with food and prop stylists to illustrate how to maximize the potential of producing a food shoot.
Khouri has been shooting professionally for 15 years and the teams he brings together produce authentic editorial and advertising imagery of food and people. From the beginning of his projects he focuses on having a well planned pre-production process to guide the shoot with a clear vision and goals. Whether it is putting together a mood board, shot list, or scouting before the shoot Nader and his team do what it takes to produce the strong imagery clients are looking for.
His local San Francisco and Bay Area commercial clients include BiRite, Mr. Espresso, Hi Lo BBQ, Hog and Rocks, The Restaurant at Wente Vineyards, Freeman Vineyards, Scala's Bistro, Zare at Flytrap, The Park Bistro and Bar, Sens Restaurant, and Poggio Trattoria. He has also shot two covers for San Francisco magazine, one of which was included in Communication Arts.
Abby Stolfo is a San Francisco based food stylist who worked for 4 years alongside many of the industry's most accomplished food stylists, primarily in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and Chicago. A graduate of Boise State's Culinary Arts program she also worked as a pastry cook at Jardiniere in SF.
James Whitney is a San Francisco based photo-stylist represented by Artist Untied. He specializes in prop and product styling. His most recent projects range from advertising for Airbnb to editorial cover stories for Fortune, Popular Mechanics and Fast Company magazines. The son of two artists, James became interested and involved with the arts at an early age. While simultaneously studying photography at Portland State University in Oregon and working in the photo industry, James decided to complete his studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, graduating with a BA in History and Latin American Studies.
Ultimately James found his way back to photography and spent five years assisting stylists in New York City and Boston. Negotiating the ever-changing demands of commercial photo shoots has made him adept at taking on small, detailed editorial projects, large, highly complex advertising shoots and everything in between. With this experience James has developed a unique take on style and design and enjoys the challenge of interpreting clients’ needs.
